Uruguay 3 Paraguay 0 – Luis Suarez scored in the 12th minute on a deflected shot and Diego Forlan scored in the 41st and 89th minutes to seal Uruguay’s record 15th Copa America win. Uruguay had previously been tied with Argentina at 14 titles a piece. Uruguay battled long odds, including being in the Group of Death and coming through the harder half of the knock out rounds bracket to win their first Copa America since 1995 when they last hosted the tournament. With a population of less than 3.5 million, Uruguay is by far the smallest South American nation which makes their 15 Copa America titles all the more impressive.

Notes: This win qualifies Uruguay for the 2013 Confederations Cup in Brazil, they join Brazil, Japan, Spain and Mexico as the teams already qualified. Luis Suarez scored 4 goals for Uruguay, enough to win the Silver Boot behind Paolo Guerrero of Peru’s 5 goals. Meanwhile, Paraguay finished the tournament with a 0-5-1 record, failing to win a single game.

This baby wasn’t even close. Great win for Charruis. Forlan was the player of the match. He hit the daily double.
