Peru 2 Colombia 0 – Peru needed extra time and a penalty miss by Colombian star Radamel Falcao to advance, but in the end they got the job done. Carlos Lobaton scored a long range effort in the 101st minute, with a little help from some poor goalkeeping before Peruvian captain Juan Manuel Vargas finished the Colombians off in the 111th. This marks another disappointment for Colombia who were heavily favored going into the game after failing to give up a single goal in the group stage.

Uruguay 1 Argentina 1 (5-4 on pks) – Diego Perez thought he was going to be the hero of the night after scoring in the 5th minute, only to be sent off less than 40 minutes later for a second yellow card. Argentina equalized through Gonzalo Higuain in the 17th minute and looked ready to take control of the game but Uruguayan keeper Fernando Muslera simply could not be beaten. After an exiting back and forth match, the game went to penalties where Carlos Tevez was the lone player to have his saved. This was a shocking result for both the hosts and favorites of the tournament.
